I graduated from high school in 2001, and briefly attended college in Tennessee. Unable to decide what to do for my career, I dropped out and enlisted in the Marine Corps where I spent three years in California and two in Okinawa, Japan. While in my last year of military service, I befriended several medical students who introduced me to the amazing world of science and medicine. I returned to college in 2008, earning a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and an acceptance to study medicine at Loma Linda University. I’ve been married for three years now, and we have two adorable miniature pinschers.

I am Hayley, a second year medical student at Loma Linda University. I grew up outside of Seattle, in the small cow-dominated town of Carnation which is famous primarily for its breakfast products. I graduated from Wheaton College in 2010 with a degree in biology. When I am not studying (which is not very often) I enjoy running in the dark, eating sushi, doodling on my notes, and climbing to the tops of mountains. Some of the things and people I love include trees, rain, my family, my boyfriend Brian, green tea, grapes, and my friends in the class of 2014. Through this blog, I hope to provide you with a bit of insight on my life as a 2nd year med student; what I am learning, seeing, and realizing as I travel through this year of school.

Hey! I’m Zach and am in my second year of medical school. I spent the year before last in Kenya volunteering and the previous four at Walla Walla University in Washington, studying biology. While there, I was lucky enough to research for two summers at Rosario Beach Marine Laboratory, where I learned that the glaucous-winged gull is the most elegant of all living organisms. I’m from Montana, enjoy the outdoors, and hope to make my life story as interesting as possible.

Hi! I’m Christine, a medical student in the Class of 2013. I grew up here in the Inland Empire, went to college at UC Berkeley, and have now made it to my last year of medical school at LLUSM. I fell in love with neurology during my 3rd year, so my plan is to become a neurologist. When I’m not working in the hospital or studying for exams, I enjoy spending time with my parents and friends, swinging on swings, rock climbing indoors, and taking walks. I am excited to become a doctor soon and share my experiences with you. Thanks for reading!

I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. I attended Walla Walla College (now Walla Walla University) in Washington State where I received a bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering and a minor in Mathematics. After a short 4 years away, I am now back in Southern California. I am often asked what kind of doctor I would like to be. I used to say that I would like to be a good one. Mostly this was because I was not really sure what specialty I wanted to go into. But now I’ve decided on internal medicine. So there’s progress, at least. When I am not busy doing something related with school, I enjoy reading, working on my computer, watching TV and movies, playing Playstation 3, basketball, ping pong, and martial arts. I also write here, on my personal blog at JeffreyMD.com, and as a contributing medical student at Medscape’s The Differential.

Thanks for reading! I’m Kari. I’m in my fourth and final year as a medical student, and I’m going into Pediatrics. I spend most of my time in the hospital or clinic, but as a fourth year I’m also making time for interviews, away rotations, I run, I cook, and I got married in August. I would never make it without my classmates and I’m impressed with them every day.

I’ll be graduating with “M.D.” scrawled behind my name in May of 2013 (barring any major catastrophes), and if the first three years of medical school are any indication of the last one, then it’s definitely important to share our experiences with those who walk beside and behind us. My husband also happens to be in my medical school class. I’ve only made it in school because I’ve had great friends to study with along the way, and a great God whose been gracious enough to see me this far.

Hey there! I’m Lauren, and I am in my 4th year at LLU. I grew up in gorgeous Sonoma County up in Northern California, but migrated down south for medical school. After three years of not being able to decide on a specialty, all it took was six weeks of General Surgery to find my true calling as a future MD. I can sew, my favorite colors are lime green & turquoise, I one day want to own a French Bulldog, and I spend way too much time flipping through cooking magazines (though only have time to make cereal for dinner). So follow me through my final year of medical school, through electives, residency interviews, the match, and ultimately, graduation!
